Ecology of Sound
Not only nature, but also the political and economic world is driven by a constant search for balance. Ecosystems influence one another, infiltrate, and seek new equilibria. Great powers pull at territory and influence, resulting in wars and diplomatic tensions. Companies — large and small — struggle for economic survival.
In its new production, the GLoW Collective translates these tensions into music and performance. Each musician functions as an ecosystem of their own. Through years of experience in the contemporary music scene, each of them has developed a distinctive sound world, with a personal set of playing techniques, instrumental preparations, and extensions of their instrument.
On stage, these sound worlds are separated by a scenographic “Y”, creating five autonomous systems. But what happens when one system intrudes upon another? Can a new balance emerge — an unexpected harmony with room for everyone? Or will one system come to dominate the others?
For this project, the GLoW Collective chose to work with two composers as coaches — Gaëlle Hyernaux (B) and Rei Munakata (J), from different parts of the world. From their own cultural backgrounds, they offer complementary perspectives on this ecological metaphor.
